HOLIDAY LIGHTS – with guest instrumentalists the Green Taylor String Quartet

Solaris’ seasonal program includes Francesco Durante’s Magnificat for soloists, chorus, strings, and organ; as well as two rarely-heard works by Viennese composer Richard Stoehr, a celebrated instructor at Saint Michael’s College from 1941-1950: A Grace Before Christmas and Ave Maria for men’s voices; Leonard Bernstein’s Gloria Tibi for women’s voices with tenor soloist; an exclusive premiere of a new composition based on Emily Dickinson’s poem It Sifts from Leaden Sieves by Solaris tenor David J Tetrault, a graduate student in Music Composition at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier; and revisiting several works from Solaris’ very first holiday concert, Carol from an Irish Cabin by Dale Wood and Northern Lights by Oja Gjeilo, in celebration of this, Solaris’ Fifth Anniversary Season 2017-18.

For the Burlington concert on Saturday evening (a change from the usual Sunday afternoon time slot), the Madrigal Singers from Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg will join Solaris to perform the Parker-Shaw arrangement of Fum, Fum, Fum.
