Echoes: The Choral Music of Richard Stoehr
This CD is a collaboration of Solaris Vocal Ensemble, Counterpoint and Bella Voce Women’s Choir of Vermont.
The recording includes 13 works by RIchard Stoehr, a Viennese composer who fled to the US following the the 1938 Nazi annexation of Austria. He taught at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia until America’s entry into World War II reduced the number of students and thus faculty. In 1941 Stoehr was hired by Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, to teach German and music and where he remained for the rest of his life.
This is the first recording of his choral works and contains pieces from all the periods of his creative life sung by three of Vermont’s finest choruses.
